91% of the students in our Step Up program are on track to graduate from high school — on time and ready for post-secondary success. This is our highest success rate at Roosevelt, Madison, and Franklin High Schools in ten years.
We built a state of the art new school in East Multnomah County, where more kids start our programs early and get what they need to graduate and get ahead. Open School East currently serves 135 middle and high school students and will grow to serve 270 students by Fall 2019.
OPEN School North
4 artists in residence helped keep classes relevant and engaging at Open School North. Our middle school students collaborated with internationally renowned artist INSA to create a GIF-ITI mural, learned the neon fabrication process with Perry Pfister, painted a spirit animal mural with Baba Wague Diakite, and wrote and recorded a song called “Believe” with musician BiBi McGill.
Open School Master of Arts in Teaching
5 graduate students from the University of Portland’s School of Education are completing a two-year teaching residency at Open School East. One of these bright young educators, David, is a former Step Up student who is now back teaching math in our community.
Thanks to generous supporters like you our sixth annual trivia competition raised more than $259,000 for Open School programs. Got Game returns on April 26, 2017 at the Portland Art Museum.
