Four Core Programs
At Open School, we get results. Through our four core programs, we reach kids early and get them on track for college and career. We also train the next generation of educators to help kids like ours succeed.
Open School East is our new 7th–12th grade college prep school in East Multnomah County that works with kids who are most likely to drop out of public school. At Open School East, these same students excel academically, graduate, go to college, and pursue meaningful careers. Starting with a class of 46 in 2014, the school will serve 270 students from six school districts by 2019. Learn more about our Campaign for Open School East.
Open School North helps kids develop a sense of purpose, connection and smarts in 6th–8th grade so they are prepared to do their best in high school. Located in North Portland, Open School North serves 60 students from Portland Public Schools.
Step Up helps the 9th graders who have fallen the furthest behind make a smooth transition to and through their high school career. Each year, the program keeps 300 kids in school and thriving academically at three Portland Public high schools—Roosevelt, Madison, and Franklin.
In partnership with the University of Portland, Open School launched the Open School Master of Arts in Teaching (OMAT) Residency Program in Fall 2015. The program is designed for candidates seeking to become licensed teachers with a focus on equity.
