To our dearest students and families of Open School East,
COVID-19 has affected the entire world and here at Open School, we know that our students and families will be feeling the inevitable impacts our society is preparing to endure in the wake of the novel corona virus.
We know now, more than ever, our work matters for the children and families we serve.
We have been hard at work since March 13th preparing to take Open School online in order to continue doing what we do best – providing advocacy and academics for your children. During these unprecedented times, we are committed to showing our students and families the relentless love, compassion, and support needed to get through this.
This is why Open School will commit to “distance learning for all ” and continue for- credit school programming to support students towards their journey to graduation ONLINE beginning April 13th.
When we return from Spring Break on April 6th, our staff will be hard at work organizing tech distribution, preparing engaging lessons on Google classroom, and reaching out to all of you to ensure you have what you need to thrive under these times. Our intention is not only continuing to support your children academically, but also provide social emotional support through community and connection (virtually.)
Here is the plan:
Between April 6th – and April 13th we will be preparing to outfit as many parents as possible with technology to make online distance learning possible. For families in need, we will be calling to organize personal contact-less delivery or drive-through “pick up” on campus.
April 10th Students and Parents will receive more communication about expectations for their students learning and how we explicitly plan to continue serving our students from a distance. (Newsletters will continue to arrive every Friday after that)
April 13th Open School online launches! Advocates and Teachers will be reaching out to students to offer support, post engaging online lessons on google classroom (that count towards graduation requirements), and host virtual assemblies to celebrate students and spread joy!
We are committed to helping you, our partners and families, in whatever you may need. This is why we will are still committed to continue operationalizing food pick up. More information coming soon.
Please reach out directly to our Associate Director , Michelle Cardenas, our Program Directors, Matt Ross and Nawwal Moustafa, your child’s advocate, or our counselor, Mr. Ethan for any additional help we can provide.
