The Step Up Student Success Specialist is responsible for ensuring that all High School Step Up students are provided the advocacy and social/emotional support necessary to be successful in school by working closely with the Site Leadership Team, School Administrators, Educators, and School Success Advocates. The Student Success Specialist works in partnership with the Site Supervisor to ensure that the School Success Advocates has the tools they need to effectively work with their students to promote social-emotional growth and provide student and family advocacy and work closely with the Site Supervisor to support all elements of the Step Up program including but not limited to family engagement, school/teacher partnership, youth advocacy, and student enrollment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the following duties and responsibilities will take place in both digital format and in-person gatherings utilizing social distancing and safety protocols that are in place. The arrangement of how these duties and responsibilities are performed will be flexible as Step Up aligns in partnership with Portland Public Schools. While we are working from home our program requires staff to live within the Portland metro area including Vancouver.

Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university in a related field and three (3) years experience working directly with diverse and under-served, multi-cultural youth and family population and one (1) year of direct counseling experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to be collaborative and work with a diverse population to solve problems and provide high-quality customer service.
Ability to be confidential and sensitive with program information and maintain a professional demeanor toward staff and students, while exhibiting a passion for the mission and values of the organization and the students it serves.
OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES
Bilingual is preferred especially Spanish.
Must successfully pass Oregon Department of Education fingerprint-based criminal history verification background check. Background checks are provided through Open School and Portland Public Schools partnership at no cost to employees.
Must attend Open School training and professional development workshops and activities. Must be able to position yourself as a learner and be willing to work with youth from a strength-based approach.
Must have a valid current driver’s license. First Aid/CPR certified preferred and can be provided by Open School.
