Open School East
Opened in 2014, Open School East is a high school located in the Rockwood community of East Multnomah County, providing inclusive, high-quality, and relationship-based learning for students in grades 9-12.
Our program offers full-day academic and social-emotional support, giving students a personalized educational experience.
We partner with six school districts—Centennial, David Douglas, Gresham-Barlow, Parkrose, Reynolds, and Portland Public—to help students get on track to graduation and successfully transition into post-secondary pathways.
Program Highlights
Our educational model is built around four relational and relevant key pillars:
- Identity-Affirming: We cultivate a school culture that allows every student to show up as their authentic self, supported by affinity groups and educators who reflect the diversity of our student body.
- Advocacy and Social-Emotional Support: We provide trauma-informed care, including daily mentoring groups led by trained advocates, along with mental health support and counseling.
- Family Outreach and Partnership: We use a strengths-based approach in our communication with students, families, and teachers, encouraging consistency and care to support student success.
- Academics: We offer a rigorous academic program with intensive remediation, acceleration, and credit recovery, as well as opportunities for post-secondary career exploration.
