SUPPORT

Our programs serve students who may face academic, social, or personal challenges in traditional school settings. These students are often resilient, capable, and full of potential, but they need a different approach to learning and support to thrive.

We serve:

Students Who Struggle in Traditional Schools

  • Those who have experienced academic setbacks, such as failing grades, credit deficiencies, or frequent school changes
  • Students who feel disconnected from large, impersonal school environments and need smaller class sizes and individualized attention
  • Youth who learn differently and benefit from personalized, hands-on, or project-based education

Students Facing Personal or Family Challenges

  • Young people experiencing instability at home, including homelessness, foster care, or family hardship
  • Students dealing with trauma, grief, or mental health struggles who need extra emotional and academic support
  • Teens balancing work, caregiving responsibilities, or other obligations that make traditional school schedules difficult

Students at Risk of Dropping Out

  • Those who have had attendance issues, suspensions, or disciplinary challenges in mainstream schools
  • Youth who are disengaged from learning due to a lack of motivation, encouragement, or a sense of belonging
  • Students who have had interactions with the juvenile justice system and need a second chance to succeed

First-Generation or Underserved Students

  • Students who will be the first in their families to graduate high school or attend college
  • Young people from low-income backgrounds who need extra academic and social support to reach their goals
  • Youth who have limited access to tutoring, mentors, or career guidance outside of school

How Alternative Education and Mentorship Make a Difference

These students don’t lack intelligence or ambition—they need an environment that understands and supports them. Alternative schools and mentoring programs provide:
✅ Smaller, relationship-based classrooms where students feel seen and valued
✅ One-on-one mentorship to build confidence and set goals
✅ Personalized academic support to help students catch up and graduate
✅ Life skills, career readiness, and college prep to prepare for the future

By meeting students where they are, alternative education and mentorship programs empower them to succeed—academically, emotionally, and personally.

Open School creates school environments that see, celebrate, and truly serve students of color. When we do, they show up as their authentic selves and rise to meet high expectations. BUT WE NEED YOUR HELP.

Charitable contributions from individuals like you help us fill in the gap to give our students the support they need and deserve.
